The 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry (African Descent) was an infantry regiment recruited from African-Americans that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The 1st Infantry was raised at Corinth, Mississippi on May 21, 1863 after Federal troops occupied the area.
The regiment was redesignated the 55th U.S. Regiment Colored Troops on March 11, 1864.
